How to protect your investors’ sensitive data from hackers – Part 2 of 3

Part 2 of a 3 part series

Turn on two factor authentication

Two factor authentication can seem like a hassle, especially when you have to log into a website over and over and it requires two factor authentication every single time you login.

But the reason two factor authentication is becoming so popular is because it works.

In the last part of this series, we fixed the problem of having to use the same password everywhere by setting up a password manager. In this post, we’ll take this one step further by requiring bad actors to have access to both our password (something we know) and our phone / device (something we have) to be able to access our sensitive investor data.

Additionally, I’ll show you one trick that makes two factor auth a little more bearable while adding a little bit more security than the most common type of two factor authentication.

TLDW: Set aside 20 minutes to log in to all of your banking, document storage, and email providers and enable two factor authentication. Download the Google Authenticator app and use it wherever possible instead of SMS authentication.

PS. When we added two factor authentication to Investor Deal Room we were a bit worried that our client’s investors would think it was a hassle. What we found out was just the opposite – investors loved that their data was being secured and all of our operators loved that it made them look more legit 🙂
